I've had them for about 20 years and I've mostly used them at Easter even though I believe they were originally Christmas ornaments. Recently a couple of them have been nesting in my home year round. This year I decided to make a birdie tree.</span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJGeTlLlh7cG4KtKahWiqoJNjhuJFU3sdCT48c6gXu_NUa9RjOPNEqF9n960hppBF8NYQ7kTi9xp13X5Gd1z2zvIbR_4ksBny6ICAtoGzRBGJ0pfOrWv2FhoHr9rGfIjadSy9Bbl0N7H8/s1600/014.JPG"><span style="font-size:130%;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5686931314995948658" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJGeTlLlh7cG4KtKahWiqoJNjhuJFU3sdCT48c6gXu_NUa9RjOPNEqF9n960hppBF8NYQ7kTi9xp13X5Gd1z2zvIbR_4ksBny6ICAtoGzRBGJ0pfOrWv2FhoHr9rGfIjadSy9Bbl0N7H8/s400/014.JPG" /></span></a>

I've only put the two birds on it before, with a nest. This year I hung all these tiny old ornaments on it too. I like it so much better this way. </span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi-AeD8r0x09RuDJxjIx7G2uJ3X8yxf30p19q_wrpH6tXDZBYTg9XeEiNEuiqH7xmigfzGoNtguaX3pja7Bl7SEMNxOJoDjbblxPUHfMhz0-wcS-CCrBLXM9gSRwMBRUYK8u7j2-2l4Ac/s1600/030.JPG"><span style="font-size:130%;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 370px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5685703356439240610" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi-AeD8r0x09RuDJxjIx7G2uJ3X8yxf30p19q_wrpH6tXDZBYTg9XeEiNEuiqH7xmigfzGoNtguaX3pja7Bl7SEMNxOJoDjbblxPUHfMhz0-wcS-CCrBLXM9gSRwMBRUYK8u7j2-2l4Ac/s400/030.JPG" /></span></a><span style="font-size:130%;"> Right there beside it is a snowman that Jane from <a href="http://mamiejanes.blogspot.com/">Mamie Jane's</a> sent me when I won her giveaway last year. It's made of a silverplate shaker...with the top for his hat and a piece of measuring tape for a scarf! It makes me think of her when I see it and reminds me to pray for her and her husband. </span>
<span style="font-size:130%;">I'm thankful for my generous and loving friends and family.</span>

I've had these for a lot of years. I haven't found one to add to the collection in quite a while. </span>
<span style="font-size:130%;">I can't find my vintage Christmas postcards, so that wreath looks really bare!</span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPmKCx2zd1hWoWDNTEoSH6nANZvftJRh12zLaCn4FgSppq2BrmPYqUDHxm_uRwIKzOd3gnjx7gz00Qdx9-ACxbGPhqzCO59I5MZfa4gJlIXH5efIG2_mOXX2dk8_lDhp4xm7RqH0UmzQ4/s1600/006.JPG"><span style="font-size:130%;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 271px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5685323089426128786" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPmKCx2zd1hWoWDNTEoSH6nANZvftJRh12zLaCn4FgSppq2BrmPYqUDHxm_uRwIKzOd3gnjx7gz00Qdx9-ACxbGPhqzCO59I5MZfa4gJlIXH5efIG2_mOXX2dk8_lDhp4xm7RqH0UmzQ4/s400/006.JPG" /></span></a>
<span style="font-size:130%;">Here are 3 more, along with my favorite little vintage snowman family.

Except this somewhat strange one with the green scarf and broom. He's smiling, but he doesn't look too friendly. I think he is Frosty's evil twin! (Click the photo once for a closer look)</span>
<span style="font-size:130%;">Have a happy, friendly day!!</span>

I blogged about this one when I found her at an estate sale. Her face was too sweet to pass up. She seems to be made of plaster and she has tarnished glitter around the bottom.</span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF9OulSAkKdOmRqwTIto5v4GoupA2lxM9-T1TKuEhJWQ_t2cBWaAo496ohvoW9Kt_-584Pl8VHh027ogcbfs61T5m9y6pEgHpdMUD5JQwaG3dkPO_rEW7npQ76mLwH2qyChBJDID9If9k/s1600/023.JPG"><span style="font-size:130%;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 299px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5684714813116499714" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF9OulSAkKdOmRqwTIto5v4GoupA2lxM9-T1TKuEhJWQ_t2cBWaAo496ohvoW9Kt_-584Pl8VHh027ogcbfs61T5m9y6pEgHpdMUD5JQwaG3dkPO_rEW7npQ76mLwH2qyChBJDID9If9k/s400/023.JPG" /></span></a><span style="font-size:130%;">I've had this one for close to 20 years I think. I bought her with some assorted nativity figures. I had her in my antique booth for sale. She didn't sell right away and I decided she was a keeper. Again it was her face that made me love her. She's also made of plaster I believe, and she's stamped "Italy" on her back.</span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsJu6L1ZUZCBL_O-w2qwM724Y-EEMd6jbdfUFi7uHmZNsIpfolwg6RjpVCOKOtAmaG18Dq_bOTDHros2nmkxgT5LODAqFjtz-VBLRQCMAWQ4zRykQKEgQBINM3wk4-ugQ-devWqlmglek/s1600/026.JPG"><span style="font-size:130%;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 299px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5684714574653071298" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsJu6L1ZUZCBL_O-w2qwM724Y-EEMd6jbdfUFi7uHmZNsIpfolwg6RjpVCOKOtAmaG18Dq_bOTDHros2nmkxgT5LODAqFjtz-VBLRQCMAWQ4zRykQKEgQBINM3wk4-ugQ-devWqlmglek/s400/026.JPG" /></span></a>

It is a 4" German kugel...very heavy glass. What I've been able to find when researching them is that this one was probably made 1880-1910. Silver is the most common color. </span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEiHGbUS4IAaF5oYFOzAcHxyLrVyjVC9DCdJWLFFFWVsZL7YlXbtvKIlmUTN1ysPA71IEb8d1pBn3lL9zjnrKeBat844pEbUlM9Waub8-MMQMBwFvYjqmFoj5jKI1Os1ZrrQEzTwOb3eU/s1600/006.JPG"><span style="font-size:130%;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 285px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5684146989511327602" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEiHGbUS4IAaF5oYFOzAcHxyLrVyjVC9DCdJWLFFFWVsZL7YlXbtvKIlmUTN1ysPA71IEb8d1pBn3lL9zjnrKeBat844pEbUlM9Waub8-MMQMBwFvYjqmFoj5jKI1Os1ZrrQEzTwOb3eU/s400/006.JPG" /></span></a>
<div><span style="font-size:130%;">It was wrapped in this old glittered cotton batting. It looks like it has been protected by this discolored wrapping for a long time. I think I paid $1 for it. I don't think it's very valuable as far as kugels go, but it is very special to me...kind of like uncovering buried treasure.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size:130%;"></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size:130%;">Have a special day!</span></div>

I spend too much time playing with each thing I pull out of the boxes and drawers. I REALLY love this stuff! </span>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsm88e_ofmlIF6sF0v-If4IzDDaA8VY5KwE9eaTUzb4u1U_9a6allkbjFyMtpJONkIIdrE3j4a_wpcx7AlUMo5kXPrWZ4xN8hiVIMwjF5eB9pMeGejT-O56mJVxwzO-H1Yq0aNUto6T7U/s1600/005.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 299px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5683793869785764786" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsm88e_ofmlIF6sF0v-If4IzDDaA8VY5KwE9eaTUzb4u1U_9a6allkbjFyMtpJONkIIdrE3j4a_wpcx7AlUMo5kXPrWZ4xN8hiVIMwjF5eB9pMeGejT-O56mJVxwzO-H1Yq0aNUto6T7U/s400/005.JPG" /></a>
<span style="font-size:130%;">Three of these are old corsages with built-in pins on the back. The other three were just picks to put on packages I guess. That's what we used some similar to them for when I was a kid. I especially like the one that is all tanished silver.
</span>
<div><span style="font-size:130%;">I don't have anyone here to ooh and ahh with me now. I moved off and left my "antique" friends. But I do have you, my "bloggy" friends who understand how special these things are...so I'm going to share them with you for the rest of this month. I hope you will enjoy them too.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size:130%;"></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size:130%;">Blessings,</span></div>

My granddaughter came and spent 2 and 1/2 days with me last week. We played and created like crazy...glitter everywhere!! It was so much fun...I live for those times! We made some things for her to take home and then I kept playing when she left. </span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXEWk8_AHUpfYPL8T13C3BJRL_uKPZASBriz4qkrh_LRMX_q3wrnUHleTSS9P3ULkBZ5Q1UzQ_GYbGGfgKoHRLTZ3p-lPmIsU5-UludQULmGckJLNeFbJNmrJ4FOTT2QoAmnH07RGblTU/s1600/002.JPG"><span style="font-size:130%;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 244px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681220205672895234" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXEWk8_AHUpfYPL8T13C3BJRL_uKPZASBriz4qkrh_LRMX_q3wrnUHleTSS9P3ULkBZ5Q1UzQ_GYbGGfgKoHRLTZ3p-lPmIsU5-UludQULmGckJLNeFbJNmrJ4FOTT2QoAmnH07RGblTU/s400/002.JPG" /></span></a><span style="font-size:130%;"> I haven't arranged this mantel. I just set some of the things up there to look at them. That little reindeer and his wreath were 25 cent finds. He was old and dirty brown. The wreath had faded from green to perfect! With a little glitter they are transformed. You'll also recognize the faux candlesticks as those old plastic ones that cost a quarter at many garage sales. I bought the new flicker flame bulbs for $1.79. I think I should have titled this post "Cheap Thrills".

I also made this banner I saw at jenniferrizzo.com (for some reason I can't link to her post). I took the easy way out and didn't do grommets. I added another layer of paper to the back so it was strong enough without it. The grommets give a much nicer finished look. When I got all finished and hung it, I realized that it should have been smaller for this spot. Oh well, it was fun and I will probably find another place to hang it. </span></div>

<div><span style="font-size:130%;">Sweetie fusses when I tell people that he married me because I'm cheap and easy, but he does like the fact that I am not high-maintenance. I don't like fancy places or fancy clothes...just take me to the nearest flea market and I'm so thrilled! Stopping at a few garage sales makes my day!!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">What a nice weekend! My brother and sister-in-law came up from New Braunfels. We did a lot of eating (as usual), talking, and we took an afternoon visit to McKinney. On the way back we stopped at a farmer's market, where I fell in love with this odd shaped pumpkin. It's very flat and lopsided...quite perfect, I think! Ginny picked out a wonderful grey/green one mottled with a peachy/orange. I should have taken a picture of it. Speaking of that...I don't know why I don't remember to take pictures of the people I love!! I think I am too busy enjoying the moments...then I have no photos! I must work on that.</span>Angelahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02410942491983930819noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2903574507350724867.post-19554602890028855292011-10-12T10:49:00.008-05:002011-10-12T11:17:29.247-05:00It's Fall!<span style="font-size:130%;">This is the first day that feels like Fall around here. It is 66 degrees and drizzling. It rained off and on last night and I am so thankful for every drop! Maybe part of the reason I'm feeling it is that I finally did some Fall decorating. Here's the mantel. I'm pretty sure that those who know me best would agree. </span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn1mZsCbdsl5Ih4qwVPD69plTnBFd-BbPshV87P53ruvqci-zRlqQYzz8kVVgu5ke3rubbT74Lnh2tf74MP-YBg1mjlkfZR-qk3AFlb7cK-9S_Tq9vA9k1pAaPNIjfVimTxhK8OvFxxsM/s1600/004.JPG"><span style="font-size:130%;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 334px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654896567795394242" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn1mZsCbdsl5Ih4qwVPD69plTnBFd-BbPshV87P53ruvqci-zRlqQYzz8kVVgu5ke3rubbT74Lnh2tf74MP-YBg1mjlkfZR-qk3AFlb7cK-9S_Tq9vA9k1pAaPNIjfVimTxhK8OvFxxsM/s400/004.JPG" /></span></a> <span style="font-size:130%;">Now after taking this picture, I must reconsider. Maybe <span style="font-size:180%;">I'm</span> okay and everything else is just a little off...what do you think?</span>

As some fade and dry up, others spring up and take their place. It's amazing isn't it? I hesitate to call them weeds...that makes them sound annoying and unwelcome. Wouldn't the roadsides be bare and ugly without them? I'm so thankful that the Lord planted them there. They thrive when the ones we try to cultivate have a harder time. I hadn't ever seen these until moving to this area. </span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9eDSAwPyk1SPqaFrLCavs5Sm-YEtF84obvKPlKijWAqsw79gZZti5eHoRgWcfgQ33vPu_4MvSK9f6MaIF-GkazEaGH9xsILXNWwNJTb1LzwE-ayUAvzCilyrZkZzQr-RYf7Y6njIXf_A/s1600/005.JPG"><span style="font-size:130%;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5647021459432923138" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9eDSAwPyk1SPqaFrLCavs5Sm-YEtF84obvKPlKijWAqsw79gZZti5eHoRgWcfgQ33vPu_4MvSK9f6MaIF-GkazEaGH9xsILXNWwNJTb1LzwE-ayUAvzCilyrZkZzQr-RYf7Y6njIXf_A/s400/005.JPG" /></span></a>
<div><span style="font-size:130%;">The flower is a cluster of very small white circles (no petals) with a green center. They are surrounded by white leaves with a green stripe through the middle. Green and white polka-dots and stripes...wow!! I think they are so unique and beautiful. </span></div>

I have a plain old camera and picture me leaning as far over a barb wire fence as I can and zooming in.</span></div>

Thankfully, some near us have received a little rain. We haven't. We had 12 days in a row of triple digits in June. There have only been 2 days since July 2 that have not reached triple digits. The forecast shows those temps through August 31. This kind of weather is hard on man and beast!! Not to mention grass, trees, and flowers. I've seen so many dead trees...it's sad. </span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpl_62vaEOg2Smaugu41FmGsk9XN2HAFlACCeu6acNjqzfkTnNHSulAjNLOFPRVLwHVXw3c-VeM96gVVQM5cD-8pb_G875sjpLH3gQWDcFhD8bRwChKM5X8LNguIYxhBb1NrZTMPMeRk8/s1600/003.JPG"><span style="font-size:130%;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 394px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5645170231308868018" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpl_62vaEOg2Smaugu41FmGsk9XN2HAFlACCeu6acNjqzfkTnNHSulAjNLOFPRVLwHVXw3c-VeM96gVVQM5cD-8pb_G875sjpLH3gQWDcFhD8bRwChKM5X8LNguIYxhBb1NrZTMPMeRk8/s400/003.JPG" /></span></a>
<div><span style="font-size:130%;">Pardon the quality, or rather lack of in this photo. It was through my dirty backdoor window. One of my little hummingbirds has made a habit of sitting in the shade of the back porch in the mornings and evenings. There are very few trees of size in this fairly new subdivision. I read somewhere that birds open their beaks to help cool themselves, I guess a little like dogs panting. </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size:130%;">Stay cool if you live down here...enjoy the cool if you've got it. My prayers are with those on the East Coast for the next few days.</span></div>

We brought way too much food, of course...but we did a good job eating quite a bit of it!

<span style="font-size:130%;">Two of the guys brought their boats. We spent some time on the gorgeous lake. We even took a moonlight ride Saturday night</span>.

The guys have lived long distances apart for most of their adult lives. I'm really thankful for this time together. Thanks Wallace and everyone, for everything! We MUST do it again!!

We went to see Kamryn's soccer game Saturday, and brought her home with us. We ate and played at McYuckys, went to church, made a gluebook and refrigerator magnets, ate peanut-butter & chocolate ice cream sandwiches, played computer games, read stories, went to bed late, woke up early, put on make-up, shopped, ate lunch at La Madeleine's, met Mom at Target...</span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw4W5ISabisZc7D6CvuuWhgogD5V9ufysDJMx53m4R1o4QsDYjVvexut2AwXUR3cJZ8Qsyg10auXiIXM-QUD9oqt7X0CuPirbld-Vrl1L9S6midg9Ga9A3fHNXl_DZk2q6xiwLIB3uUBg/s1600/005.JPG"><span style="font-size:130%;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5638936294667564434" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw4W5ISabisZc7D6CvuuWhgogD5V9ufysDJMx53m4R1o4QsDYjVvexut2AwXUR3cJZ8Qsyg10auXiIXM-QUD9oqt7X0CuPirbld-Vrl1L9S6midg9Ga9A3fHNXl_DZk2q6xiwLIB3uUBg/s400/005.JPG" /></span></a><span style="font-size:130%;"> and went outside only long enough to take a picture of our raspberry lemonade break...because it was 105 degrees.

So Grandma went to bed pretty soon after an early evening nap! It happens everytime she comes,</span> <span style="font-size:180%;">but I love it.</span>

Then a while back I found the blog, </span><a href="http://sassytrash.blogspot.com/"><span style="font-size:130%;">Sassy Trash</span></a><span style="font-size:130%;">. She creates so many wonderful things with wire and metal. I noticed that her vines and leaves are pretty much the same way I fashion mine...only she takes it so-ooooo much farther. I love her work! I had glued paper behind mine and sometimes used beads to add some color. Then I happened on this book by Jennifer Swift. She uses fabric and wire. I love her work also!! Her blog is </span><a href="http://blog.birdfromawire.com/"><span style="font-size:130%;">Art As Usual</span></a><span style="font-size:130%;">. Since it is a how-to book, I felt free to use her ideas.</span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbPleeBVzdQ1oCHz7juVJS0rTUJngTvfeQNJ1-RiXiJrkdDy8mQiJYDtUWf7iTy_czTF144qdGZTsmv9yjWAJDWQ3qfbh3rNKj89zsLcMvDFYEcN4ymRZKGVSELobTO5Is8dn-mrwlOoI/s1600/012.JPG"><span style="font-size:130%;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 370px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634783934982613490" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbPleeBVzdQ1oCHz7juVJS0rTUJngTvfeQNJ1-RiXiJrkdDy8mQiJYDtUWf7iTy_czTF144qdGZTsmv9yjWAJDWQ3qfbh3rNKj89zsLcMvDFYEcN4ymRZKGVSELobTO5Is8dn-mrwlOoI/s400/012.JPG" /></span></a>
<span style="font-size:130%;">Now I would <span style="font-size:180%;">not</span> compare my work to the artwork of these ladies, but here is my latest creation...

So I used a section of an old door, some scrapbooking stickers, and started wiring...</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size:130%;">After looking at this photo I tweaked the bird's head a little. Now I'm itching to do some more!!

That won't be happening though. This is as good as it gets!</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size:180%;">I hope you are enjoying your week. I'm through playing now...it's time to get back to painting.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size:180%;">Blessings,</span></div>
